Home Energy Scotland offers a grant and loan scheme designed to help homeowners improve the energy efficiency of their homes. This program provides financial assistance in the form of grants and interest-free loans to support various energy-saving improvements.

To be eligible for this assistance you must be a homeowner in Scotland. Private landlords will not be able to apply, however, they may be eligible for the Private Rented Sector Landlord Loan.

Grants of up to £7,500 are available for energy efficiency and zero-emission heating improvements and an optional interest-free loan of up to £7,500 can be taken alongside this. For rural households, the grant amount can increase to £9,000.

Eligible improvements include boilers and heating systems, insulation (cavity wall, floor, solid wall, and roof), draught proofing, and windows (replacing single glazing only). While the scheme did cover solar pv and energy storage systems, as of 6 June 2024, new referrals for these installations are no longer provided.
